I blinked, and the month was gone.
How is it August already?!?!
Okay, it hasn’t been THAT long since I did my last newsletter, but honestly, every time I sit at the computer to write down…something…anything…my mind goes blank. Chalk it up to summer blues or the pressures of life, but either way, I’m here now. I wish I had more to update you guys on, but tbh, not much has happened.
While the summer heat is finally kicking into overdrive here in TX, the summer break is actually about to end! I’ve chosen to homeschool my kiddos this year to protect my parents against any extra germs(they were both recently diagnosed with cancer and have been undergoing treatment), so we’re getting ready to jump into the deep end with that next week!
Reading has been my solace for the past two months. Since I’ve been running around to hospitals and welcoming out-of-town family for visits with my parents, I haven’t had the opportunity to write. Only this past week have I found time to sit down and get words on the page with my current WIP.
What about you? Have you read any good books lately? Drop a rec in the comment section below for me to read!

Writing Updates
Wine in a Million has been out for about two months, and people are still reading! I’m loving seeing my backlist get some attention, too! This past week was the first time I’ve been able to sit down and write in about two months. I was able to get 10k words down on the page in my new story, and I’m happy with how it’s shaping up. I don’t want to put a deadline on this story because I honestly don’t know what the next few months will look like for my family, but I’d love to have it to you by November!
If you’re looking for something to read this weekend, download one of my books on KU! Check them out here.
I also sell signed copies with goodies on my page, Tobiecarter.com
Romantically Yours Update
If you’ve been following me on social media, you know that I had to pull out of Romantically Yours Con in Orlando this month. I was very excited to meet new readers and to see some of my old readers, but unfortunately, with my dad’s health so touch-and-go, right now I’m needed at home. I’m hoping to be able to attend events that are more local to me here in TX where I can be home in a few hours if I’m needed, but until further notice, I won’t be attending any out-of-state events.
If you are attending Romantically Yours and bought the RY Anthology, you should get a bookplate with my signature in it! Since I won’t be attending, I wanted to make it special by putting a secret about my next book on one person’s bookplate, so make sure to check yours when you get it!
Book Recs!
Every Thursday night, former country music heartthrob Luke Randall has to sing “Another Love Song.” God, he hates that song. But performing his lone hit at an interstate motel lounge is the only regular money he still has. Following another lackluster performance at the rock bottom of his career, Luke receives the opportunity of his dreams, opening for his childhood idol—90’s era Black country music star, JoJo Lane, who’s being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. But the concert is in Arcadia, Arkansas, the small hometown he swore he’d never see again. Going back means facing a painful past of abuse and neglect. It also means facing JoJo’s daughter, August Lane—the woman who wrote the lyrics he’s always claimed as his own.
August also hates that song. But she hates Luke Randall even more. When he shows up ten years too late to apologize for his betrayal, she isn’t interested in making amends. Instead, she threatens to expose his lies unless he co-writes a new song with her and performs it at the concert, something she hopes will launch her out of her mother’s shadow and into a songwriting career of her own. Desperate to keep his secret, Luke agrees to put on the rogue performance, despite the risk of losing his shot at a new record deal.
When Luke’s guitar reunites with August’s soulful alto, neither can deny that the passionate bond they formed as teenagers is still there. As the concert nears, August will have to choose between an overdue public reckoning with the boy who betrayed her, or trusting the man he’s become to write a different love song.
Being forced to plan a surprise bachelor/bachelorette trip with Abby Knight, the one person I can’t stand, is my version of hell. But my brother asked, and I can’t say no to him. So, I grit my teeth, make more than a few compromises, and spend an unhealthy amount of time pretending not to notice the way she drives me crazy.
Then I kiss her to get her out of a sticky situation, no big deal. Except it is. Because the more time we spend together, the more I realize there’s something behind that sharp tongue and tough girl exterior. Something real. Something I don’t want to walk away from just yet.
So, like any good frenemy, I strike up a deal: for one week, she lets go, and I let her in. As soon as we get back from our trip, everything returns to normal. We can’t stand each other, so there’s no risk of either of us falling for the other. At least that’s what I told myself, but then the texts come.
A stalker.
Threatening notes.
And when the danger turns deadly, I step in without thinking. I don’t care about the risks or what our friends think. I’d wreck myself before I let anyone touch her. Because she’s not just my brother’s fiancée’s best friend. She’s mine, and I’ll protect her, no matter what the cost.
